* About the Society

History
The Society of Aesthetics of Costume was established on April 1, 1971.The first generalmeeting of the Society of Aesthetics of Costume was held in November 1971, and in December the inaugural issue of FUKUSHOKUBIGAKU
(Journal of the Society of Aesthetics of Costume) was published. Later, in 1978, the Society of Aesthetics of Costume became affiliated with the Science Council of Japan, and in 1996, it joined the Artistic Research Coordination Committee of the Science Council of Japan. In 2005, the Society of Aesthetics of Costume became the Cooperative Science and Research Body of the Science Council of Japan.

Purpose
The Societyfs purpose is to promote research on the artistic values of costume seen in various fields such as art, literature and in relics and objects used in daily life in the past and present, in Japan and other nations. It also aims to provide opportunities to present the results of this research.

Activities
The activities of the Society at present consist mainly in the following:
1. Holding conferences.
2. Publishing the journal FUKUSHOKUBIGAKU (twice yearly, at the end of September and the end of March; as a general rule, only papers submitted in Japanese are accepted),
3. Holding general meetings and committee meetings.

Members
The members of the Society are classified as regular members, supporting members, or subscriber members.
Regular members may present their findings of research on aesthetics in costume at the society's meetings.
Members may attend the Society's conventions and conferences. The journal FUKUSHOKUBIGAKU will be distributed to members.
Each member will pay a prescribed annual fee.

Application Procedure
After providing the necessary information on the form, please mail it to the Societyfs office.
You will be informed by mail of the approval of your application.
Following this, please pay the admission fee as well as the annual fee. If you are paying from overseas, please use an international money order.
